Re: Miami Wait Times

When I applied, Virginia told me that the first step was to contact all the consulates where my relatives and I lived to be sure that no one had "renounced italian citizenship" and made no mention of validating any documents. I don't think they do that. I'm pretty sure that's what the apos...

Re: adopted by stepfather confused about docs! please help!!

I just went through this exact situation in Miami on March 31st. My birth father (non-italian) passed away when I was 7. My mom (italian) re-married, and step-dad adopted me. I was issued a new birth certificate, the adoption was sealed (as they always are). Miami originally (before my appointment) ...

Re: Name Discrepancies how strict are they??

I will second that on Virginia in Miami. They didn't even blink when "Gaetano became Guy" as she phrased it, and "Antoinetta became Antoinette", and "Antonio became Anthony". Virginia is extremely reasonable.

Re: Proof of Citizenship for Miami Consulate?

Yes, Virginia's last name is Valore. I had my appointment and she was really nice and helpful. I should add that her follow-through is great. She is really prompt in answering emails. I did a write-up on the appointment, here: http://expatsinitaly.com/phpbbforum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=12029 If anyo...

Re: Maternal Grandfather, more difficult?

Your cousins should have no problems. They can bring photocopies of the documents that you already submitted and your file number for reference. They will need their own appointment and will have to provide their mother's and their own original documents plus applications.

Re: Document errors & corrections

Fix all that you can. You should be able to modify both of these documents by providing supporting documentation to the Dept of health in NYS. I was able to make corrections this way.

Re: useful tips, apps, order, discrepancies, parents, notarizing

Thank you so much for all of this advice! You have simplified things and your discrepancy list is really well done. It will benefit me greatly. Is San Fransico so backed up because of the vast number of italians that settled there? I ask because I recently heard from a Miami applicant that they reci...

Re: Proof of Citizenship for Miami Consulate?

The fact that Virginia is only wanting translations for first person documents confuses me. I was told when I called last summer that the following needed to be translated: GGF-birth, death, marriage GF- birth, death, marriage Mom-birth, marriage ME-birth, marriage, divorce, certificate of no appeal...

Re: adopted by stepfather confused about docs! please help!!

Hi all! I am applying through Miami and this is what they told me about my adoption. First let me say my birth father (non-italian side) passed away when I was 7. My mom re-married and I was adopted by my step-dad when I was 16 and got a new birth certificate. My mom and I are applying together and ...

Re: Certificate of No Appeal?

My aunt is in the same situation and I was told by the Miami consulate that if he is deceased she doesn't need the certificate of no appeal. Each consulate is different though. I would call and ask or email. They are really good about answering questions like that in my experience.
