Hi Finding_Alessandro! How long did it take you to get the SS-5 application?

I've been waiting on my request for about a month now, and someone else said 6-8 weeks.

6-8 weeks sounds about right, if I recall.

Alessandro, what would I be gaining by accessing my GF's ss# application? Do you think it would have his parent's names on it? That is the information I really need, and I really need to know if his parents, particularly his father, naturalized....... It will give his parent's names. Since it was f...

That's good news - much more details from your aunt. In addition to his birth certificate, also request Salvatore's SS-5 ($27). It's the form he filled out for Social security benefits (lookup here: http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/). I see Salvatore listed which is a good thing. This will give Sal...

Maybe, maybe not... Looking through the census index for 1910, I see a Salvadore Russo in Buena Vista Township (next door to Vineland), age 45. A son (Ralph) and daughter (Maria L.). Wife's name begins with "Fo..". Salvatore and his wife emigrated in 1895. Look in Ancestry.com for more inf...

Did they go through Ellis Island? If so, check the passenger manifests ( http://www.ellisisland.org/)? This may give you a little bit more detail regarding the town name/province. Another thing to do is to request the microfilm records of the births in these towns from the LDS ("Latter Day Sain...

NY State - GP marriage certificate: letter from consulate?

Hi, I'm trying to get a copy of my grand parent's marriage certificate from the state of New York (Rockland county). This was a marriage that was in 1929 and I can't believe the hoops I will have to jump through to get this. Is there an easier way to get a certified copy with an apostille that someo...

Hey, my great-grandfather is from a couple towns over in Lioni! I had a long ordeal getting his birth certificate because an earthquake in 1980 destroyed Lioni's records. I had to go through the archives in Avellino to get a copy. Hopefully you won't have to do the same, but just in case, here's the...

Just a guess, but the small town of San Pietro Infine (Province of Caserta, Region Campania) still has some families with the Pagano surname. http://www.italyworldclub.com/campania/caserta/sanpietroinfine.htm Also, if you put in your surname here: http://gens.labo.net/it/cognomi/genera.html you can ...

Hi Joe, One option is to get the birth certificate through the LDS church. You can order the microfilm at almost any LDS church for $6 and it will be sent from Salt Lake to that church for your viewing and copying. They microfilmed the records of births from 1800 to 1900 for Macchia Valfortore which...

Thanks for the responses. I got the address of the provincial archives for Avellino province and I'm going to request the certificate from them. Rechecking the LDS source of the microfilmed records indicates that they got the records from the province archives which may be a good sign. I'll also inc...

Italian Birth Certificate from town with lost records

Hi, I was hoping someone could give me some ideas what to do next. I'm trying to obtain my great-grandfather's birth certificate from the town of Lioni in Italy. I have sent a letter via MyItalianCitizenship and received a response that they lost their records due to an earthquake in 1980 (Lioni was...

Okay, so you've seen this passenger manifest already. Then what did you do with this information? Dominic is from "Ariano". There are three towns named Ariano that I know of - "Ariano Irpino", "Ariano nel Polesine" and "Antico Borgo di Ariano". One thing to do...
