Thanks for making that list, penguindump -- it's good to see where we all are in the continuum. The unfortunate center!!!

This sounds like something more appropriate for a Learning Annex/Learning Exchange type of thing. Or, your local Italian Cultural Society -- positive you'll get interested takers there!

Karin, why do you need a letter from the consulate to get a birth certificate from NY? I had to get several birth certs from NY and did not have a problem :?

origine naturale It's a "polite" term for illegitimacy. Ah, okay! I could not figure out what that was referring to! David, I am looking forward to hearing what the lawyer has to say. It would be great if I could actually have the same name on my Italian passport as on my American one.

This is not the case -- a couple of years ago some lawmakers were trying to change the law, but as far as I know, they were not successful.

Sorry if this was already covered but... I just read that if you obtain a court ordered name change in California, you can completely change the name on your birth certificate. If this was done, would the consulate still use your fathers last name or do they use the name on the birth certificate? I...

Thanks for all the info, jpp888, and the well-wishes, Dave! My consulate tells me that all I do is send them my new address, and the file stays with them. A little sad, since I'm at SF, but oh well!

Thanks, p! NZ is just paradisical -- I love Italy (With my BA in Italian I work as an Italian to English translator, and I plan on getting my MA and PhD in Italian), but I don't want to live there. New Zealand on the other hand, works perfectly for me. I had to write Anna Maria about some of the doc...

This happened to me as well.. Ms. Stone told me not to do anything about it. She said it wouldn't be necessary until after 3 years when my wife wants to apply. :? Ah, okay -- thank you! penguindump, for some reason I always assumed you were a woman! I guess it's the whimsical name. And unless you g...
