Oh I see, that's a good idea. Maybe I will request the correction by mail and then ask a friend or relative if they can get the signature and apostille for me in person. It will require a certified copy of my mother's birth certificate to get the correction. I'm tempted to just send the authenticate...

It's actually pretty easy to get an appointment at the LA consulate, both times I've scheduled just a month in advance. Definitely not as many Italians here compared with cities like New York, San Francisco and Chicago! ;o) But I did just email the consulate back to ask if I could mail that one extr...

Are you sure family can do it? I thought only you or your parents could access your birth records.

Can I? That would make my life a whole lot easier.

I did get an official answer to my question, too. I emailed my consulate and they surprisingly wrote back right away and said that I do indeed need a new apostille. This could take a while.

I figured as much, I was just hoping someone would tell me otherwise! It's such a pain to get an apostille on a certificate from NYC via the mail. Guess I'll have to push back my next consulate appointment.

Thanks, but I had good news and bad news. My meeting was on Friday at the LA consulate and I was so close to the finish line! She noticed a typo on my birth certificate - they spelled my mother's maiden name Ferull instead of Ferullo - and she said I have to get it corrected. That's easy enough to d...

Corrected birth certificate question

I went through the long process of getting an apostille for my birth certificate from NYC, but when I went to present my documents to the LA consulate they noticed a typo that I had overlooked - the last letter was left off my mother's maiden name, Ferull instead of Ferullo. I have to get that corre...

I went to submit all my documents to the LA consulate but they pointed out a typo on my birth certificate that I didn't notice. They left the last letter off my mother's maiden name: Ferull instead of Ferullo. Since that's the side of the family I'm going through, they're making me get it corrected....

My great grandgather's name was Vincenzo but it says Vincent on his death certificate and my consulate said that was fine. As long as the last name is correct.

I don't think it really matters. I was unable to locate my great grandmothers birth certificate as well, and the consulate said that was fine. It's the direct line that's important.

Waiting over a year for certificates from ICGS

I ordered my Italian certificates from ICGS more than a year ago. I keep checking in, but no one has gotten back to me in months and I'm getting very very impatient. I would think someone would contact me for more information if they had trouble finding the certificates, or let me know if they were ...
