That's what I thought, but that's definitely not what the consular official said. :(

Re: NYC Consulate Denial

Thanks Em
It is completely disheartening. We were (or, we thought we were) so completely prepared, so I am sort of in shock about now being at the back of the line again. At least I can be thankful that I still have another route to use.

Re: NYC Consulate Denial

Also, I observed at my first meeting that the officer was typing while interviewing me. Was your officer actually typing information into the computer, in contemplation of reviewing your application? Yes, he was. But he stopped when he saw that my ggf was born in 1894. He did ask us to complete app...

Re: NYC Consulate Denial

I really appreciate all of the responses. It's frustrating; I know that NYC will not reconsider our application. However, as truly discouraged as I am right now, I'm back on track and pursuing citizenship through my mom's side. I was able to reschedule my appointment for the end of January. I have e...

Re: Where can I get copies of WW1 Draft Registration Cards?

I'm sorry, I should have done a little more research before I posted. I see now that I can get a copy from NARA.

Where can I get copies of WW1 Draft Registration Cards?

So if you read the about the disaster that I had at the NYC consulate yesterday, I'm thinking that I might need more back up proof for an unfixable discrepancy when I re apply using my mom's line instead of my dads. I just found a WW1 Draft Registration Card, with correct info on it. I recall someon...

Plan A & B

Thanks for all of the responses! I am glad to know that I did not miss a major law, even if this is all still discouraging! But I really do appreciate everything that all of you have said. I'm pulling myself together, and coming up with Plan A and B. So... Plan A: We have another appointment in NYC ...

Re: NYC Consulate Denial

Never give up, right :D I've fixed every discrepancy on my mom's application that can be fixed, except for removing the 'R', which would take a court order. The remaining ones can't be fixed, although I do have written proof. Ah, who knows. Well, at least I do have the appointment in February, so at...

Re: NYC Consulate Denial

The story gets worse. I was able to make another appointment, (because, luckily, I also qualify through my Mom), but it isn't until February. Doesn't that seem a bit harsh? I thought that follow up appointments were given sooner? Apparently not. Frankly, though, at this point I don't even think they...

NYC Consulate Denial

In short, our appointment could not have gone worse. It was scheduled for 10am, and my Dad and uncle and I got there about 15 minutes early. We went up to the second floor, and were seen immediately. The entire appointment was conducted in Italian, because my Dad is nearly fluent. First the consular...

Re: Passport application in NYC

congrats! Didn't your Dad submit his docs fairly recently? Also, how long did it take from submitting the passport application to actually receiving it?

Re: Apostilles or Translations for "Non-Italian" Side

simdave, I have my appointment in NYC on Monday. I'll be posting a review of the appointment early next week, hopefully to answer questions such as these. However, it is my understanding that the NY consulate does not want any documents for the "non-Italian" side. I've got them though, but...

Re: Last minute prep work for upcoming NYC appointment

Thanks Em! I know I need to relax, but I've kind of given up trying until after the meeting  . But good to know that NYC isn't interested in the census. I won't offer any document to them unless they ask. Sometime early next week I'll let you all know how it went.

Census records

O.k., so my appointment is coming up on Monday. I've just been doing my final check of documents/putting everything in order, and I feel like my proof that GGGF never naturalized is sort of weak. I just found my GGGF in the 1900 census, and thankfully my GGF is listed (age 6) and it clearly lists my...

Re: NYC - Translations Question

I'll definitely let you know about this all. As far as I know, out of the people actively posting on this board, I have the next appointment in NYC. I'm going to be writing up a (very) detailed recap, just so the most current info is out in the public! It should be a requirement that every member of...
