Received my passports

Well, almost a year after submitting my documents to the Detroit consulate, we have our passports in hand...for me and the kids at least. My husband's is a much longer wait I've found (2 years!). Each one cost $122 which I hear is a new thing. Yay, just in time to pay almost $500 in fees, lucky me. ...

Received Italian Birth Certificates

My citizenship package was sent from Detroit to my commune the week of December 8th, received by the commune sometime in January, and birth certificates issued shortly thereafter --- received them today (Nicola got them for us, scanned, and emailed them - originals to follow) :D :D ! So now we can a...

Re: Acceptance, AIRE question.

Here is my understanding of how it works. I received my letter from Detroit Dec 8th. 1. First you will get the letter from Detroit saying you have your citizenship. With that letter will be the AIRE form which you should fill out and return to the consulate. 2. Around the same time your letter goes ...

Re: Detroit consulate

When the Detroit consulate sends your documents (in the diplomatic pouch) to Rome, Rome will then send them to your commune. Once your commune gets them, they input the records into their system and issue you an Italian birth certificate (it will show you were born in the US) and an Italian marriage...

Re: Document question

I went through Detroit also, and they are one of the consulates that requires you get your Italian birth certificate issued by your commune (attached to your passport application) before they will issue a passport.

Success in Detroit

Hey all. I have been a lurker and infrequent poster on this board for about a year and a half. I finally received my citizenship letter yesterday from Detroit, and there's no way I could have done it without this board and all the gracious members who have been kind enough to answer my questions and...

Re: HOUSTON -- I've Received My Acceptance Letter, Now What?

I wish someone would answer this post of yours because I'm curious about the answers. I hope to be getting my letter in the next month or so, as I've been told my application is almost ready to go to Italy (not even sure what that means!)

Re: 4 months

Didn't they care that you moved out of their jurisidiction? Or didn't they know? Did they mail your letter to Japan? Sorry, it's just that I've always wondered what happens if you move out of the consulate's jurisdiction while they are in the process of going through your paperwork! :)

Re: Translations for the Miami Consulate

I used Gabriella Einaga who lives out in California. If you put her name into the search box you'll get her contact info. She's great and reasonably priced compared to others.

Re: Choosing a consulate, Current address, Identification issues

Detroit REQUIRES that you provide a copy of your driver license showing residency in their jurisdiction. I suspect they all do.

Re: what are my options now?

I had to use my GGF's baptismal record because the birth records were destroyed in the war. The church wrote a letter stating the facts and attached a copy of the baptismal record and their certified copy. The Detroit consulate accepted it (so far anyway). Nicola is the one who got it for me over in...

Re: Letter of No record

I posted this in more detail somewhere else on the board, but I got my certified non-existence of record from the USCIS in only two months from start to finish. Here's what I did: I filed the G form and put in bold black at the top: "I NEED A CERTIFICATE OF NON-EXISTENCE OF RECORD" Apparen...

Re: Costs of translations--suggestions for services

I used Gabriella Einaga and I found her to be super sweet and very responsive. She did TONS of documents for me. About 25 different certificates, she did the apostilles for free, two long divorce decrees, and various affidavits and letters. Fast turnaround and very cheerful emails. Loved her!!!!

Re: How/where do I get a certified NO RECORD letter?

Back in September of 2008, I sent in USCIS FOIA requests, one for my GGF and one for my GGM. At the top of the form I wrote in big bold letters "I NEED A CERTIFICATE OF NON-EXISTENCE OF RECORD". Two months later I got two documents back from USCIS in Lees Summit for my GGF, one saying ther...
