Look for an honorary vice consul in the area. Call that person and see if s/he can give you a direct contact at the consulate, ie a direct email address and/or telephone extension. It reminds me of the music business, actually - unless you have a direct contact getting through to people at the consu...

I was very satisfied with the level of service in Miami, but this is putting a little bit of a damper on it, to say the least. Hopefully they get it together before I leave, though. We'll see.

Best part? I DID go in person! Oh no, wait wait wait, that isn't the real best part - the REAL best part is. . . . I'm moving to Europe in September to go to school, applied and registered as an Italian, and will need my damn passport! Miserdo, I couldn't help but laugh at your reply. That is kind o...

Very nice, J. I'm waiting on my passport in Miami. edit: update. I emailed them the other day to see if there was any word on my passport. I received an email back today asking when I applied, and saying she has my file but does not have the passport application, the money, or my 2 photos!!!!! I res...

One other thing to consider in the interim, as this seems like it could be a rather lenghty process for you, is to try to find a job using your schools career resource center. If you can interview with them, and they like you, they may sponsor a proper work visa. Some countries actually grant extend...

Extended Family

So I have found out where my family came from in Italy and have the email address to the comune. How would I go about finding if there are any relatives still over there? Distant cousins and what not. I read once that there is sometimes a form that lists the entire family. Is there such a thing? Bas...

I had great success with e-mail. I've heard horror stories about the Italian mail system!

No problem, EU. You are correct. The old documents are kind of useless for this process. The only time they may come in handy is if there are any issues obtaining new documents, or a document is missing, and you are trying to prove lineage by using these as supplemental materials. Essentially, new d...

1) You will not hand them those old original documents. Everything must be relatively new so you can obtain the apostilles. Apostille is a page that is attached to eat document that verifies the signature as being authentic. 2) You know the documents are delivered and can get immediate response. If ...

Hmmm, I would THINK the answer would be no because they need to see the authentic signature and stamp. With a fax the authenticity would be in question. I am just guessing, though. Did they find a replacement yet for the official who recently left in Miami? She was wonderful to deal with!

You're welcome. If you need information on the Miami process, check out my write up.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I recently went through the process, albeit with a different woman handling citizenship issues.
