This pdf file can explain it better than I can. www.census.gov/genealogy/www/bc-600.pdf This is what I used.It is the application for census records 1940 and later. Not sure I pasted this correctly but it is the website.

What I have is a certified transcription from the census bureau with my grandparents' information it and has a seal on it. It is not an actual copy of the census record but it is from the bureau and it is certified.

Hi Joe,
I am in the same boat but mine is my grandparents.I recieved an email from the philly consulate and they told me the same thing but did not specify if just a copy is satifactory or to have an official copy. If you find out can you let me know. thank you

i apologize for the confusion.it is not great grandmother's document.it is the incorrect spelling of her name on the marriage record between her and my great grandfather.which i guess is both their document.also the spellings of their parents names on the record are incorrect.i hope this clears thin...

thanks for the suggestions.but i have to say that my grandparents were born in america.I am applying through my great grandfather(grandfather's father).so naturalization records will not work for me.i have tried the local courthouses in philadelphia,delaware county and new jersey as well as churches...
