Re: Qualification?

In meeting Consul General Marcelli from SF Saturday, he explained the 1912 rule was an Italian law that was in effect at that time, as is the 1948 rule about women, then the acceptance by Italian law in 1992 of allowing dual citizenship. They don't budge on these (at least in SF) but , on the other ...

Re: Meet the new SF Consul General

Sorry penguindump, there were so many people asking questions I just wasn't able to ask it. I think they could have answered questions for another hour or so. I think ciaobella mentioned they are having another one of these in Carmichael in the fall and one in San Francisco this summer. I don't know...

Re: Meet the new SF Consul General

I just wanted to post one thing Mrs. Stone said. Most of you on this forum already know this but for newbies it might help somewhat. She and the Consul General called it "reconstructing" your citizenship. Mrs. Stone said she gets lots of questions about why they need this document or that ...

Re: Meet the new SF Consul General

Ciaobella, I couldn't have said it better. Like you said, there were a lot of people there and they really didn't get to answer everyone's questions. I think a lot of people were overwhelmed by it all. And yes, Anna Maria was great. She knows her stuff. I very much liked the new Consul General. I th...

Re: Meet the new SF Consul General

I've started making a list of questions. Mine include what the process involves and the time frame right now. I also wanted to ask for some good resources on Italian politics that are fairly bipartisan since we will now have the right to vote and I would never vote without knowing what the heck I am...

Re: Meet the new SF Consul General

So, I take it the most desired question everyone wants asked is the time frame? Any others? Not 100% sure I'm going but pretty sure. For sure I will post what goes on at this gathering. It would be great if someone else goes from the forum and can post their thoughts too.

Re: Meet the new SF Consul General

Wow, losing that second officer is like a stab to the heart!!! Believe me, if I go, the time frame will be my #1 question (politely and graciously asked, of course!

Re: Can a step-child get citizenship?

Yes, I have been told what Tiffany says. My son has a stepdaughter and his wife will be getting citizenship through marriage and I was told the stepdaughter would get it through the mother if she is still a minor. We also thought they were going to have to go the whole adoption route which sounds li...

Re: Benefits

That is a nice story too, lobezno. I'm glad that I am able to fill in some gaps for him in his search for genealogical information about our family. I've had plenty of really nice conversations and surprises during this whole process.

Benefits

I just have to mention a positive benefit for me in doing this whole process is that when I was posting questions on the Italian Genealogy forum, a second cousin I did not know I had, was also doing genealogy research on his family! He sent me a PM and we are now in touch with each other and hope to...

Re: welcome note from the comune

That's wonderful to hear. Very nice indeed. I always wonder how the Italian people feel about us getting our dual citizenship.
