Re: Detroit consulate

I did, it took two years after I submitted my app. But because my mom had two name changes they took a long time to figure out how to handle it. That said, it seems like Detroit usually take six months or so. You can check with your comune in Italy and see if it's been registered yet.

Re: Detroit consulate

I don't know, that's up to you. If you got nothing but time and patience, then wait and do it as she suggests. I wouldn't wait though. If ALL your ducks are in a row, and I mean ALL , then send her the package. Put the ball in her court. As long as you don't submit, she can say anything she wants, a...

Re: Detroit consulate

Regarding only going back two generations, that's BS and she knows it! She processed mine from my GGF, she might not like it and she might be misleading you, but jure sanguinis has no generational limit. She can't unilaterally decide only GF and down. Though some consulates have been enforcing the 1...

Re: Benefits

I found a cousin who is the grandson of my great-great-grandfather by a second marriage. I got his name from my other cousin and then found his phone number on the net (he's an attorney in his 70's). We talked for about three hours about my GGGF and my GGF. You never know what and who you'll find wh...

Re: Passport Success

If either of you .... are using the short phrase above as "proof" that the law absolutely requires that dual citizens specifically use their Italian passport when entering the country... well, this has truly become a useless argument. What would you use as proof, other than the Italian la...

Re: Amending Docs with Vital Statistics/INS

The Naturalization cert is not amendable as far I know. The New York docs, if from NYC, should be fairly straightforward if you have the proper backup documentation, but if they are from NY state, you're gonna' have a real fight on your hands. See expatsinitaly.com for some anecdotes on peoples expe...

Re: Passport Success

Ogni cittadino è libero, salvi gli obblighi di legge, di uscire dal territorio della Repubblica, valendosi di passaporto o di documento equipollente ai sensi delle disposizioni in vigore, e di rientrarvi. Bill, I invite you to give your best shot at an English translation of the above paragraph. I ...

Re: Passport Success

NB you don't have to use your passport. Your Italian ID card is good enough. Any one traveling within the EU would use the ID card. That's what this means: 1. Ogni cittadino è libero, salvi gli obblighi di legge, di uscire dal territorio della Repubblica, valendosi di passaporto o di documento equi...

If caught, the fines for exiting Italy that way for him would be minimal, if even enforced at all.... Are you serious??? After all this complaining by you and Bill2/Zagnut about Italian law in regards to passport usage, you are now saying, "the fines for exiting Italy that way for him would be...
