Official On Line Questionnaire

I have been told by consular officials that the best, and official, on-line resource for gathering whether one is eligible, and which docs he should get is at:

www.niaf.org/citizenship

Although currently hosted on a Niaf web server (one may like niaf or not I guess) this has been developed by the Embassy of Italy in Washington. it is very accurate in telling you exactly what you need to apply, and whether you qualify or not.

It's FREE, it's RELIABLE, it's OFFICIAL. Let's use it!

Em suggested to open a new thread on this so I did. Looks like a very good tool.

I just tried it. If you're going back to your maternal great grandfather, it doesn't work.

It's not that it "does not work"; after great grandfathers it addresses you to your consulate in order to request assistance directly from them. Makes sense to me - when there's over 3 degrees of ancestorship you want to have a professional taking a look and make sure everything is in order before having false hopes.

Could you suggest any services? There's one online that will give you a 30 minute call for $100, regardless if you qualify or not. Sounds a bit dodgy.

crissta, why don't you post the details here. This is not really complicated at all if you know birth and naturalization dates. We will help w/o charge. Give us the information like this:

greatgrandfather - born Italy - 1900 (naturalized 1932)
grandfather - born U.S. - 1928
father - born U.S. 1955

Be sure to indicate whether your ascendants are male or female. It sometimes makes a difference.
