Hoping I qualify

Postby dzarello » Fri Jul 17, 2009 3:30 pm

This seems to be the Million Dollar question. So I guess I'll ask the same question, do I qualify? I have checked into it alittle bit, but I am unclear. I am having to go clear back to my GGGF so here it goes:

Me--born 1980
Father--born 1960 died 2009
Grandfather--born 1933 died 1989
Great Grandfather--born 1899 died 1975
Great Great Grandfather--born 1867 died ? Naturalization 1917

Somebody please have some good news for me! If I do qualify, I am going to have more questions and if I don't qualify, thank you for taking the time to read and reply to this topic.

Well I guess that answers that.

Now I have questions. My GGGF was born Vincenzo Zarriello. Somewhere between 1920 and 1930 he changed/Americanized his name to Vincent Zarello AFTER his Naturalization. My question is, will this affect my chances of obtaining dual citizenship?

This one is tricky. Did he legally change his name or was it just something he started doing? If he legally changed it, then you might be able to get the document and have it certified, etc., but if he didn't and his name is different on his death cert than all other certs, then you might have a problem.

I haven't had to deal with name changes like this, though, so someone with more experience will have a better idea.

I don't know if he legally had his name changed or if he just decided to do this on his own. I have put in a request for his birth cert. from Italy and also requested a death cert. from social security admin. I'm hoping that the name on the death cert. matches the name on the birth cert. I will keep checking and let you know my findings.

Thanks for the reply. :D
