HI This is a fantanstic sight. Wondering if any of you all would be kind enough to help clearify if I am eligible for citizenship. here is my family history:

Me-born USA 1969 (Male)
Father-born USA 1940
Mother-born Italy 1943-became US Citizen in 1962
Paternal Grandfather-born Italy 1905-became US Citizen 1920s
Paternal Grandmother-born Italy 1915-became US Citizen 1950's
Maternal Grandfather-born Italy 1919-never naturalized
Maternal Grandmother-born Italy 1920-never naturalized
All great granparents born in Italy and lived all their lives there.

Do I qualify at all and would it be through the paternal side or maternal side?
Thank You! Joe Francomano albuquerque, NM

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it does not appear that you qualify.

Mother --> You
Unfortunately, you do not qualify b/c she naturalized before your birth. And because you cannot "break the chain" you cannot qualify through your maternal grandparents or great-grandparents. :cry:

Paternal Grandfather --> Father --> You
Another bust, as your grandfather naturalized before your father's birth. :cry:

Paternal Grandmother --> Father --> You
Unfortunately, women could not pass citizenship to their children prior to January 1, 1948. Since your father was born in 1940, his mother could not pass citizenship to him. :cry:

You can always become a naturalized citizenship after living in Italy for an amount of time. If I recall correctly, it is about 3 years.
