complication question about eligibility (marriage, stepkids

Postby jbsperli » Sun Aug 02, 2009 11:18 am

Here's my situation - I'd like any help in knowing whether I would be eligible!

My husband's stepfather is 99% certain for eligibility. If he becomes a citizen, it seems from what I've read that his wife (my husband's mother) can also become an Italian citizen. I imagine that, if she has citizenship, her son (my husband) may also be able to become an Italian citizen. If that were the case, I then imagine that I, as his wife, may also be eligible for citizenship.

Does anyone have any idea if I'm right in all this? None of us live in Italy (we all live in the US) - would that be an issue at any point?

Your husband can only obtain Italian citizenship through his mother if he is a minor at the time she acquires citizenship. I assume he is not.

If your husband was legally adopted (as a minor) by his stepfather, he could qualify through his stepfather, but the adoption would have to be registered in Italy.
