My Strange Situation

Here is my dilemma. I want to use my maternal grandfather's information to obtain jure sanguinis citizenship. He was born in Italy and was an Italian citizen. He was an Italian citizen when my mother was born. (Here's the strange part...) My mother was born in Italy, but when she was very young she came to the US with her mother on her mother's US passport in 1945-6. She never renounced citizenship in Italy per se, but has lived as an American citizen. What does this mean for me and my quest for citizenship in Italy? I would really appreciate any input or help.
Thank you!

Gigi, the odds are strong that you qualify, but do answer Malcolm's questions from the other forum (I think it was Malcolm). It looks good, but the answers to those questions will allow us to provide a more definitive answer.
