Italian Grandfather born in Brazil

Determine if an ancestor was ever naturalized and, if so, discuss your consulate's requirements for proving this.

Italian Grandfather born in Brazil

I think I can qualify for dual citizenship through the relation: "Mother - Grandfather: Your mother was born in your native country, your maternal grandfather was an Italian citizen at the time of her birth, you were born after January 1st, 1948, and neither you nor your mother ever renounced your right to Italian citizenship."

However, if my grandfather was born in Brazil in 1895, does this negate anything since I wont be able to obtain his birth certificate from Italy? My Great Grandfather was born in Italy, if I need to go a generation farther.

Yes, you need both:
the birth certificate for the Italian born ancestor
the birth certificate for your ancestor born in Brazil

You'll likely also need to prove that your great-grandfather did not renounce his citizenship or naturalize in another country prior to the birth of his son.
