naturalization confusing

Determine if an ancestor was ever naturalized and, if so, discuss your consulate's requirements for proving this.

naturalization confusing

Postby maria55uk » Sun Nov 07, 2010 7:59 am

Hi all,
My mother was brought to England from Italy as a child in the 1960's as far as she knows she was naturalized and has lived in the UK ever since.

On trying to obtain a naturalization certificate for this from the UK national arcives im told no record exists.

Is this enough for myself her son to be able to apply for italian citizenship? If so what is my next step on the ladder now?

Or does the fact she holds a british passport cancel this out?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know much about naturalisation in the U.K.

I suspect the fact that your mother has a British passport indicates that she naturalised as a U.K citizen at some point. You will need to find proof of the date. I doubt you can rely on the "no record" position as she clearly is a U.K. citizen.

Others might have a more informed view than mine. I am really just guessing.
