Response from State Archives in Italy

Postby WorldWithoutBorders » Mon Sep 29, 2008 4:42 am

So, i have a rather neat story. Using the ****://]Italian Form Letter Generator[/url], i sent an email to the State Archives of Cosenza, the province where my great-grandfather was from. They wrote me back stating that they found record of his birth in their database, but their office is moving, so they couldn't send me copies of his records. I guess they're all boxed up or something! They said they could find marriage records, too, since theirs date back to 1865. I have a marriage certificate from him and my GGM in NYC, but i'm not sure if it was just a ceremony in the US. If they did one in Italy, i'd rather use that since i wouldn't have to get a new one, apostilled, etc. They gave me the contact details for the commune in San Basile and i faxed them my original letter and response from the State Archives in Cosenza. What was interesting is that the State Archives show his birth 14 days before we understood it to have happened.
