Another JS Success SF!!!

Postby Esatto » Sat Feb 21, 2009 10:09 pm

On February 14, I gingerly opened my mailbox at my vacation apartment and there it was an envelope postmarked January 24, 2009
with an envelope inside that said "I am pleased to notify you that your citizenship has been recognized........."
with the raised blue seal on the second page.
I applied for the passport on the 16th and in the mail today, February 21, in record time was the passport :D :)

WOW! I still can't believe it. Here is my timeline:

Collected documents 2005 emailed for appointment Nov. 2005
Scheduled Appointment for October 2006
Accepted October 2006 - no requests for additional documents
Jure Sanguinis recognized January 2009
Total Wait 2 years three months

It was the happiest Valentine's Day of my life (no offense hubby) and big thanks to the citizenship department and the new SF consul Fabrizio Marcelli! They are flying through the applications.

I waited to post to include the time for the passport
WOW!! I can exhale!! Don't worry your letters will come and it will feel like Christmas!!!

Thanks also to this forum for all of the support and encouragement and to MyItalianCitizenship for showing me the way! :D

Congratulations! Did you apply for the passport by mail, or in person? I'm assuming you don't need another appointment to apply in person... :)

From what I've heard, you should be able to just walk in and give your passport application to the person greeting you at the front desk. just have it all filled out, with the form of payment they accept and your photos, and you should be good. Although, I'll probably end up taking my citizenship letter with me once it comes.. or at least a copy of it.

Take your citizenship letter with you, but no, you do not need an appointment to renew. My husband renewed his beginning of this month. No appointment was needed, he just brought his almost expired passport and two 2x2 pictures (they cut them down to 1.5 x 1.5 in the consulate). He also brought a Fedex envelope with him to ensure secure shipping back (I think they just use regular mail otherwise) and three days later we received it.

Congratulations of course. But I wouldn't call 27 months a fast turnaround, especially for a straightforward case.

It is for SF with the backlog they've had.. When most of us applied, we were told it would be 3-3.5 years.

Is it because there are more Italians living in that jurisdiction that the wait is so ridiculous?
