Saw questions regarding an "IT Card". Could someone please advise what this is and the reason for having it?

Thanks so much,
Lynn

It is for Italian citizens living abroad, i.e. the US, if you have this card you can get some discounts at certain business in Italy. It is to encourage more Italians living abroad to visit Italy more often.

Do you know how to get one? I Google'd and found a description of it at www.esteri.it, but no mention of how to get one.

I asked at the consulate when I got my passport and the lady had me write a statement requesting the card, signing my name and dating it. Then she got me a card and gave it to me the same day. I was surprised that I wasn't even required to write my statement in Italian (and I did ask her about that but she said English or Italian it didn't matter).
