If apostilled, do we need certified certificates?

Postby jszmajda » Sun Mar 26, 2006 10:39 pm

Regarding death certificates - Should we get the certified version of the death certificate or the regular, uncertified version from the department of vital statistics? (The death certificates are from the USA)

Thanks for your help.

I don't think you can get an apostille if the document is not certified.

Josh,

All the birth, marriage, and death certificates need to be certified. Then, you need to request Apostilles for the ones in the direct line of the person you are claiming citizenship through.

Some embassies, NY for one, only require birth certificates for those in the direct line. Of course, you'll need marriage certificates too, but this saves some time.
