Please Help Grandfather Born in France Never Lived There

Postby Rialto » Thu Sep 09, 2010 8:16 am

Hi,
I am just looking into the process. All my grandparents were originally Italian citizens. However my paternal grandfather was a US citizen when my father was born. My maternal grandfather was not naturalized when my mother was born. My maternal grandfather was born in Marseilles, France but never lived there. I found his U.S. naturization petition. That petition asks him to renounce his fidelity to 1. The French Republic and 2. Victor Emmanuel III, King of Italy. Can anyone help me on what I would need to prove that my maternal grandfather was an Italian citizen.

Your ggf's birth certificate would be helpful. It's possible that they would accept the oath, but you would have to check with the consulate on that.
